This summer, I have made it a goal to try to successfully grow some kind of food at my house. In the past I have been quite unsuccessful, but I am going to blame the deer for that one. Those little sh*ts eat everything!
Alex and I constructed a hopefully deer-proof raised bed with chicken wire barrier, for some tomatoes, summer squash, green peppers and beans. It's doing pretty good so far, though I am a little worried I over planted for the space. So, we will see how that goes. The other thing I did was made a little herb garden for our front step. I saw this one on Pinterest, and decided to give it a try. Here's mine:
When I planted it a couple weeks ago everything was tiny and sad looking. Now it's all starting to get huge! We have already used the basil a couple of times (all Alex wants is to eat a caprese salad with tomatoes and basil we grew ourselves). In addition to the basil, we have some thyme, dill, rosemary and parsley. I also through a couple petunias in there for some color.
I am slowly starting to get into gardening. I am enjoying reading up on different things and trying to keep everything alive and happy. Hopefully, this will be a fun new hobby for me.
Happy gardening (and knitting)!
